Council Chairpersons and other Members
As at 01 January 2005 Area Health Advisory Councils were appointed in each of the following Area Health Services and Hospitals.
Greater Southern South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra
Greater Western Sydney South West
Hunter and New England Sydney West
North Coast Children’s Hospital at Westmead
Northern Sydney and Central Coast
Area Health Advisory Councils are responsible for facilitating the involvement of health consumers, local community members and clinicians (doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other health service providers) in the development of Area Health Service policies, plans and initiatives for the provision of health services. They will directly advise the Chief Executive of Greater Southern Area Health Service.
Each Council has between 9 and 13 members, with a balance of clinical and consumer/community representatives, and at least one member who has expertise, knowledge or experience in relation to Aboriginal health.
Applications are sought from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill a vacancy that currently exists on the Greater Southern Area Health Advisory Council for a period of 18 months, up until November 2007.
It is desirable that applicants live or work within the Greater Southern Area Health Service.
Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, young people and people with disabilities.
Member Selection Criteria: Strong, existing community, consumer or clinical links and a commitment to improving health services in NSW. Teamwork, communication, consultation and negotiation, advocacy, strategic thinking and critical analysis skills. Objectivity, flexibility and cultural sensitivity.
Chair Selection Criteria (in addition to members’ criteria): Experience in chairing committees/boards, management and leadership. Effective written/verbal communication and presentation skills, and experience in conflict resolution.
