Calling hospital volunteers in Goulburn

Goulburn Base Hospital is looking for members to join its volunteer ChitChat Team and become part of a new volunteer program for the Medical Ward.

Goulburn Health Service Volunteer Coordinator Sandra Bill said it is anticipated volunteers will become an important part of the hospital with the expansion of the Volunteer Support Workers Program and many will be needed to meet the needs of patients.

“We aim to offer the same support to patients and staff that has been so successful at Bourke Street Health Service,” Ms Bill said.

“The ChitChat team, which is operating at Bourke Street Health Service, provides social and emotional support to patients, minimises a patient’s feeling of isolation from their communities and makes their day a little brighter.

“The ChitChat Team is the first of new volunteer programs we are looking to introduce at the Base Hospital, which will add to the patient’s hospital experience.

“These patients are our family and friends and we are always looking at ways to make their hospital stay a little more comfortable,” Ms Bill said.

The ChitChat Team will complement the Pink Ladies who have been part of the hospital for many years.

If you can spare a couple of hours a week or would like to know more about how you can become a member of the ChitChat team, or help in other departments, please contact Sandra on 4823 7800 each Tuesday or Wednesday.
