Human Research Ethics in GSAHS

Introduction
The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 stipulates that organisations conducting research involving humans should ensure that such research is subject to rigorous ethical review by a properly constituted and operating Human Research Ethics Committee. Greater Southern Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is fully constituted by the NHMRC.
Under the NSW Health Model for Single Ethical Review of Multi-Centre Research, all research that is being carried out in more than one NSW Health Site must be approved by a Lead HREC that is accredited to conduct a single ethical and scientific review on behalf of all sites within the NSW public health system where the research project is to be conducted. This eliminates the need for each local HREC to conduct its own review. GSAHS HREC is not a Lead HREC and only reviews research that is being conducted in GSAHS alone. (See link to list of Lead HRECs below).
