Health Promotion
Population health principles embrace the following:
- Considers and acts on the social, environmental and behavioural determinants of health
- Focuses on populations or specific groups within populations rather than individuals
- Gives priority to preventing ill health and promoting and developing good health
- Acts to reduce differences in health status between groups and within the population
By adopting these principles Population Health will:
- Focus on the health of populations and disadvantaged groups within those populations, adopting health equity as an explicit goal
- Focus on addressing the determinants of health and the interaction between these factors
- Work in collaboration and partnership with health workers, other agencies and communities.
- Provide leadership and advocacy for improving population health
- Foster the capacity of agencies and communities to address population health issues.
